THOUGHTFUL
Since becoming a City Councilor in 2004, I have participated in numerous educational and training opportunities through The Mass Municipal Association, The Merrimack Valley Planning Commission, The Sustainable Tourism Lab, the Project for Public Spaces and online resources from The Urban Land Institute.
DECISIVE
- Sponsored ordinances to close loopholes in the zoning code and saw through the legislative process to successful conclusion.
- Ran efficient, business-like City Council meetings as Council President for two terms, all Councilors have the opportunity to be heard, while keeping debate on-point and decisions on track.
- As Council President, assigned Councilors to committees where their talents and interests could best serve the city.
COLLABORATIVE
- Have worked effectively with two Newburyport Mayors
- Was on the Strategic Land Use Committee and worked with numerous divergent groups to crate a landmark land use agreement using smart growth principals
- Worked with open space advocates for the successful acquisition of the Curzon Mill property and the Common Pasture.
- Served on the Parking Task Force.
- As past Chair of the Planning and Development and current Council President, I have developed a good working relationship with many department heads, the Parks Commission, the Planning Board and the Historic Commission.
